ground too frozen to dig out parsnips and carrots
« on: December 27, 2009, 19:52 »
I was beginning to panic a bit with the frozen ground, worried that my Christmas dinner veg would be impossible to remove.  I had discussed my worries with my OH and tucking them up with a blanket was the best we could come up with.

I didn't do it as the ground was already frozen and due to freeze again, didn't think it would work somehow.

So Christmas morning, after ignoring OH's instructions i sneaked out to the garden with a watering can of quite warm water, Hey Presto, veg for lunch.

Worked a treat.

No need to worry again. Don't know why i didn't think of it earlier!

Just thought i'd share.
Liv.

That sounds like what I do with the car windscreen when the OH isn't looking!  ;)

I was wondering about that as I plan to produce all my own Christmas dinner veg next year, but if it's frozen like this again it would be a problem. Warm water sounds like a good solution only - without an urn or a dozen thermos flasks, the water would probably be cold by the time I got it to the allotment!
