Many queries get the response "Where do you live?" because there is no location entry.

Why are members of this forum shy about where they are?

The location entry in the profile need not be very specific but at least a county or area would I am sure produce more responses.

Should a location entry be a requirement?

Is action needed from the moderators?

I agree - it is interesting and quite useful to know whereabouts people are.

It often makes a question or a response more meaningful.
Also; when "welcoming" someone new it's good to know if they are neighbours in the same or the next county.

They've all got their feet up in front of the fire.         biggrin

After reading this post and realising i dont have my location showing, i have tried to edit my profile to show it. But the only account settings i can find to alter are my name, password etc.

You couldnt point me in the right direction could you!?

Cheers!

Click on "Profile" at the top of the page, then "Forum Profile Information" on the LHS. You'll see editable fields, one of which is location.

To reply to Salmo's original question - this has been raised before.

I believe - I could be wrong here - that the location field cannot be made mandatory.

As for action by moderators, only admin can change members details, all we mere mods can do is chase new members and encourage them to put their location in their details.

Yes, the location is helpful, more so in this forum than elsewhere, but I can think of better things to do than run around chasing every unlocated member! laugh All forum members not just mods can ask newbies to pop their location in.

I also think this information is relevant, as I have said before. Answers on certain questions like lawn planting timings for instance can vary depending on whether a questioner is in e.g. France or in the middle of the Cairngorm mountains.
