Having been away for 6 weeks, I have noticed the new section as titled above (or similar).
A couple of years ago, I was prescribed Vit B6, by my Doctor, as my muscles were wasting and not as strong as they should be (despite going to the gym 3 times a week).
After a blood test, the Doc rang and told me I was obviously a Vegan.   Oh no, said I, I love all meat and eat lots - She said - Ah yes, but do you eat, cheese, milk, or in fact, anything dairy - No, I replied, - that makes you a vegan, she said.
I have taken the B6 ever since, and my little muscles are fine now.

So it would appear that there is a fine line between Vegans and Veggies and not always do the twains meet.   Mrs Bouquet

Huh? I was always led to believe that vegans didn't eat or wear any animal sourced products at all, so that would include meat, which is slightly animalish, isn't it. ??

The way I understood it, I'd agree with that catllar.

I'm not vegan, but a Taurean, by the way.

As I understand it Vegetarians eat no dead animal bits and are sometimes called "Lacto Vegetarians", however Vegans will not use anything produced by animals, eg no leather , milk, honey, eggs.

My neighbour eats no meat but still eats fish and she calles herself a "piscatarian" laugh laugh

A true vegan will not eat, wear or whatever ANYthing animal.  Trust me, I have catered for them!  And it wasn't easy!

As to vegetarians.  My cousin's daughter classes herself as veggie, but eats fish, so we used to call them demi-vegetarians

It just shows how little people can learn whilst at university.  Sad

Vegans do not eat meat.

Nor do vegetarians eat fish. Or chicken.  Roll Eyes

These "vegetarians" who eat fish and chicken make me laugh. Some of us commited carnivores eat hardly any red meat nowadays, does that make us all vegetarians then?  Roll Eyes

Whe I was veggie (for about 5 years in all) I always thought that the definition of veggie diet was no flesh, fish or fowl!

Seems as if some make up their own rules nowadays Roll Eyes

It seems to be very difficult to be vegan and stay healthy, as it is soo difficult to balance the diet.

What an interesting topic, I guess my doctor was generalising about the vegan bits that related to my condition at that time.   I must admit that I never buy any shoes unless they are leather !!! Mrs Bouquet

I know ....   Sad

I'm married to a carnivore, so I try to source my meat and fish and eggs responsibly - and then I buy supermarket milk/cream. I know about rose veal and what happens to the bull calves, but .... Huh?  I can get milk from a local farm etc etc, but I have to drive in the opposite direction to usual to get there in working hours ....  10 - 6 .... it just doesn't work!   Sad Sad

DS was vegan for around six years, and after a particularly nasty infection in his foot from treading on a gigantic splintery bit of plank (needed an operation in the end) truned out to have severe anaemia.

The reason was B12 deficiency and he had to have injections every three mon ths for a while.
he now eats meat occasionally and the problem seems to have been sorted  biggrin

I don't like red meat and I never have but I eat it occasionally so I don't miss out on too many vits and minerals.

I like Grannie's Turkey though!! and I eat loads of fish.
