Yeah, 1 cockerel is plenty!  They reckon a cockerel to up to 15 hens each!!!   so you should be fine!

Of course, he may die early due to exhaustion!!!!   biggrin

You should have let them hang for a couple of days Sam, lets the muscles relax and give you more tender meat.

If you fancy doing a bit more plucking and gutting, we need a bit more help week before Christmas!!!!

They hung for 24 hrs and ideally we would have left them longer but it's having time to do it mid week that's the problem.
Anyway, they are in the freezer now, jointed bagged and labled.  biggrin

Sorry, I am looking forward to not having any more plucking etc to do now till spring.  We did 5 turkeys last yr so I don't envy you wtih the amount you have to do, it is a long and boring task.

I am even having my Cristmas dinner cooked for me this yr, (1st time ever) We are going to my sisters so I plan to be VERY lazy, eat too much and not to go anywhere near a turkey's back end!

Good luck  biggrin

Lucky you!  Brian used to cook our christmas dinner.  About the only time of year he did cook! But he doesn't do it anymore.  But there's only the 2 of us, so it's not too bad.

shame about the plucking!  But we have our chief plucker, more experienced now than he was last year!!!!   But you are right, it IS boring and we have 38 chickens and 30 turkeys to do for other people too as well as ours!!!!!    Sad Sad
